She is the co-author, with Loren Niemi, of Inviting the Wolf In: Thinking About Difficult Stories. Elizabeth is the author of "From Plot to Narrative ?, which received Anne Izard and Storytelling World Awards. She is a favorite and frequent presence at the National Storytelling Festival and the Teller-In-Residence Program of the International Storytelling Center in Jonesborough, Tennessee, and has been lauded as "One of America's finest storytellers. An evening with Elizabeth Ellis is by turns entertaining, enlightening, refreshing, and always satisfying.Įlizabeth has received both the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Circle of Excellence Award from the National Storytelling Network. She does all this with hilarity and poignancy. Her stories confront the essence of shared humanity, the parts we can be proud of, the parts that embarrass us, and also the darker shades of the human experience. She makes it sound easy, but few people draw in the listener the way Elizabeth does. Working from simple raw materials-traditional stories, her Appalachian childhood, Walmart(!)-Elizabeth captures the listener with an unpretentious charm that disguises the craft in her work.
